Adding a small percentage of elastane can improve stretch, flexibility, and garment recovery. This makes cotton/elastane fabrics particularly suitable for fitted polo shirts, modern silhouettes, active lifestyles, and premium casual collections.
A composition such as 95% cotton and 5% elastane or 96% long-staple cotton and 4% elastane can provide a comfortable balance between the natural feel of cotton and the flexibility of stretch fibers.
Neither option is universally better. The right choice depends on the product's positioning and target customer.
Choose 100% cotton when natural comfort, breathability, and a traditional polo-shirt feel are the priorities. Choose cotton/elastane when stretch, movement, fitted styling, and shape recovery are more important.
For custom polo shirt development, fiber composition is only one part of the decision. GSM, fabric construction, yarn quality, finishing, shrinkage, color consistency, and stretch recovery should also be evaluated.
A well-developed polo shirt is the result of matching the fabric composition, construction, weight, and fit to the intended market—not simply choosing the highest percentage of cotton.
